SYMMMD

 

 Symmetric minimum degree.

  p = SYMMMD(S), for a symmetric positive definite matrix S,

  returns a permutation p such that S(p,p) tends to have a

  sparser Cholesky factor than S.  Sometimes SYMMMD works well

  for symmetric indefinite matrices too.
