Windows 95 is a 32bit graphical operating system released on August 24, 1995 by the Microsoft Corporation.

It was Microsoft's first Windows operating system without support for older, 16-bit x86 processors, thus requiring an Intel 80386 processor or a compatible faster one, running in Protected Mode. It featured significant improvements to the GUI and underlying works, but many considered Windows 95 to be unstable and to have not fulfilled its design objectives. However, Windows 95 was a best-seller, and consolidated Microsoft's hold of the desktop operating-system market.

Later editions of Windows 95 came with Internet Explorer 3, then Internet Explorer 4 preinstalled; Internet Explorer 4 introduced several changes to some aspects of the GUI.

Its successors' were Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows XP until Windows 10. Windows XP was Microsoft's first consumer desktop operating-system based on the technologically superior Windows NT kernel.
